Why this site exists
Search for towing capacity and the results are dealerships, RV brokers and hitch manufacturers — people whose income depends on the answer being yes. Their calculators multiply one number by another and stop, because checking properly would cost them sales.
The community’s best free tool, the one every forum thread pointed at, has been offline since January 2024. In the gap, the only thing left is a salesman with a brochure.
We do not sell trucks, trailers, hitches or your details to anyone who does. The calculator is ungated because the absence of a gate is the point. Every assumption is visible and editable, the method is published on the page, and the limitations sit next to the result rather than behind it.
The one thing worth knowing before you start
Payload is per-truck, not per-model. Two identically badged pickups on the same lot can differ by five hundred pounds because one has four-wheel drive, a sunroof and a heavier engine. The only number that describes your truck is on the label inside your driver’s door, and it beats every brochure, spec table and forum post — including anything on this site.
And when it matters, weigh it. A CAT scale ticket costs about the price of lunch and replaces every estimate here with a measurement.
